Q: HI, I HAVE AN OLDER CAL SPA THAT HAS A FRANKLIN 1081 POOL MOTOR ITS A 3 HP. AND HAS A SONFARREL POOL MASTER PUMP. I AM LOOKING TO REPLACE THE WET END OR THE COMPLETE PUMP THE MOTOR STILL WORKS FINE. BUT AM UNABLE TO FIND A 3HP. CAN YOU HELP? THANKS
A: You cannot get that a particular setup any longer, but there is a fairly straightforward replacement. To replace it we use a smaller pump and three unions. If you look at the Pool-Master you will see that it has a union facing away from it towards the plumbing cluster above it.
We replace the union and run a piece of pipe down to the shorter replacement pump. This way we do not generally have to disturb that plumbing cluster above. This only leaves the inlet to worry about and it is a single pipe and easy to deal with.
You would need the pump at the link below:

And 3 of these unions:
Q: Mine has a center discharge the one this shows is a side discharge ! do you have any of these?
A: Not with the kind of flow you need, but the pump is smaller and the plumbing is to a certain extent flexible on those. There is not generally an issue getting them to line up without cutting the upper plumbing. If you really need to adjust for the side discharge and do not have the flexibility you can use a pair or 45 degree elbows to move it over a few inches.
